Facing online harassment: how digital skills and social support shape our responses
When confronted with online harassment, internet users must decide how to respond—a choice that isn’t always easy given the variety of options. Some choose to ignore the situation, others block the attackers’ accounts, and some opt for direct confrontation, often in public forums. In my doctoral dissertation, I examined online harassment from the perspective of those affected, aiming to understand their response choices. Digital skills and supportive social networks emerged as essential resources in helping individuals cope with online harassment.
