Osaamistavoitteet

A student knows and can apply the basic principles of continuum mechanics, balance equations and the different formulations in describing a motion of a deforming body. In addition a student understands the general principles in constructing constitutive models, like objectivity and invariance.

1. Description of motion, formulations of Lagrange and Euler.     
2. Strain measures: deformation gradient and the mostly used strain tensors.      
3. The concept of stress and the most common stress measures like Cauchy, Piola and Piola-Kirchhoff stress tensors.      
4. Balance equations: energy balance, balance of linear momentum, balance of moment of momentum, entropy inequality. The principle of virtual work.     
5. Constitutive models: hyperelasticity, visco-elastic models.
