FYS-7106 Introduction to Soft Matter Physics, 3-5 cr
Implementation FYS-7106 2016-01
Description
The introductory course discusses the physical principles of phenomena and processes taking place in soft matters systems such as polymers, colloids, liquid crystals, and biological systems.
Period | The implementation will not be executed during the academic year 2016-2017. |
Methods of instruction | |
Person responsible | Sanja Pöyry |
Assessment scale
Numerical evaluation scale (0-5)
Requirements
Exam (100%). Additionally, activity in performing exercises will have a positive impact on the grade of the course.
Additional information of course implementation
The full course corresponds to a size of 5 cu. However, it can also be studied as a version that is mathematically lighter with 3 cu. Only the full 5 cu version of the course is suitable for advanced studies in physics, and postgraduate studies. The 3 cu version is aimed for students from study programmes other than physics. All lectures and course materials will be given in English. As background material, the students are encouraged to pass the course FYS-7206 Biological Physics (FYS-7200 Biologinen fysiikka), but this is not compulsory, just a recommendation. The present course corresponds to (and replaces the course earlier lectured in Finnish) FYS-7100 Johdatus pehmeän aineen fysiikkaan.
