Learning Outcomes
After completing the course the student knows,is able to classify and can explain the principles of various analysis methods suitable for material performance evaluation. The student can summarize the failure mechanisms and the main principles and characteristics of each of the mechanisms. The student can analyze the impact of different environments on the initiation- and propagation of the most typical failures. The student is able to carry out basic failure analysis studies, apply basic material research techniques into the failure analysis procedures and produce simple failure analysis reports. The student will also be able to define different non-destructive testing (NDT) methods and to be able to demonstrate various NDT techniques to evaluate materials during processing and finished products and structures. The student can analyze the limitations and advantages of different NDT methods to select the appropriate techniques for inspections. After finishing the course, the student will also understand the results obtained by general thermal analysis methods, how these methods are applied to measure the material performance and to solve typical problems in materials science and technology.
