Participation in lectures, completing the course exercise (written report, peer evaluation and two short presentations).

Osaamistavoitteet

After completing the couse, the student is able to name most common unit processes in industrial bioengineering. The student can explain the operating principles of these processes. The student is able to explain how to manage and maintain biological processes in a bioreactor. The student can implement theoretical knowledge and is able to develop a theoretical concept of the overall process. The student is able to evaluate the feasibility of different bioprocess designs and consider the economics of the process based on the estimated selling price of the product and the planned production scale.

1. Essential subjects in the field of in vitro bioengineering  Technologies related to proteins and nucleic acids   
2. Essential subjects in the field of in vivo bioengineering  Transgenic microbes, plants and animals, gene therapy   
3. Industrial bioengineering (such as bioprocesses and bioenergy)     
4. Oral presentation skills, preparing of presentations     
5. Searching, interpreting, and presenting of scientific information

Participation to lectures, completion of the written report of the process-design excercise.
