Housing Design Professional Course is an advanced design course dealing with contemporary topics on dwelling. The course consist of: independent work on design project. Lectures, seminars or studio meetings and critique sessions. An analysis task related to the topic.

In order to pass the course the student needs to: accomplish the design project as well as the analysis task, and attend the studios, seminars and critique sessions mentioned in the schedule.

Learning Outcomes

After the course, the student is able to analyse emerging housing solutions and various forms of special housing. The student is able to interpret building regulations and background phenomena concerning housing design, and is able to apply them in a design task. The student can solve a complex housing design task related to the developing of novel housing solutions and typologies in a way that is satisfactory in terms of architecture, context and functionality. During the course, the student is to learn to develop his / her personal design approach. After the course, the student is able to discuss the principles of socially and ethically responsible housing design as well as the principles of sustainable architecture, and is able to apply these principles in his / her own design work.

1. Development of housing design skills, e.g. dimensioning of dwellings; applying regulations and interpreting societal phenomena in a design task.   Development of one's personal design approach.   Endeavour to innovative residential architecture. 
2. Completion of a complex housing design task in an architecturally, contextually and functionally satisfactory way.   Developing novel concepts or housing typologies for groups with special needs.    
3. Gaining the ability to develop novel housing typologies.  Design in a detailed level, applying structural and technical systems to the design.    

Additional information about prerequisites
Students must have basic knowledge and skills on housing design before taking the course.
