Learning Outcomes

This course offers wider theoretical and practical knowledge for Integrated RF Circuit Design to enable the independent analyze and design of major importance RF-blocks of modern integrated transceivers. The student is able to: - Describe the general concepts of modern integrated transceivers; - Review the state-of-the-art RFIC blocks and critically compare their features and performance; - Analyze and Electrically Design major RFIC blocks in modern radio systems; - Use the Advanced CAD tools of CADENCE fluently for circuit design and analysis. - Perform simulations, layout design and parasitic extraction using Cadence design tools. - Evaluate RF circuits by performing On-Wafer measurements by Network analyzer and Spectrum analyzer.

Content

Content Core content Complementary knowledge Specialist knowledge
1. The concepts of wireless GHz-range integrated transceivers. Derivation of the monolithic IC LNA and VCO specifications from the systems specifications.
2. PLL basic concepts, types and main building blocks, such as phase frequency detector, charge pump and divider.
3. Design for Manufacturing. Link the electrical circuit to the Design Kit Rules and consider the monolithic implementation with respect to Measurement Set-up after fabrication.
4. Modeling in Cadence of the whole IC and the Measurement set-up.
