Target of the course is to give students a good general understanding of applying ICT technologies in the area of health care and the special needs placed for information management in this area. Course aims to provide students first a basic understanding of health care processes and health care systems: how they are managed, organized and funded in Finland and in other countries. After this the course presents the specifics of health information, how it is utilized in health information systems, what are the key standards and how they are utilized in building health information systems.

Course is intended for students who are planning to work in the health care domain, either in research and development or in managerial roles. Perspective of the course is on processes, architectures and information management.

Suoritusvaatimukset

Passing a final exam and completing a group project assignment acceptably. Final exam is based on the lectures and additional material. Lectures are all video recorded. The group work includes a mid-term report and a final report. Group project is evaluated with the scale pass / pass with compliments. The groups which have passed the group project with the grade pass with compliments will get a one level higher grade of the course than their exam indicates if the exam grade is not zero.
