Learning Outcomes

The student understands fundamental principles of digital hydraulic systems and differences to traditional hydraulic systems. The main focus is in digital valves and their control.

Content

Content Core content Complementary knowledge Specialist knowledge
1. Binary components in hydraulics, different on/off valves.  Boosting of on/off valves.
2. Digital hydraulic systems. Utilization of parallel connection.
3. DFCU - Digital Flow Control Unit, static and dynamic characteristics.  Good and bad state transitions.
4. Digital valve systems. Characteristics, benefits and challenges.
5. Model based control of DFCU and digital valve systems.  Sum flow control, simultaneous control of three or four control edges.  Steady-state model of valve-cylinder combination and its solution.
6. Digital pumps and motors.  Controllability of digital pumps and motors.
