This is an introductory course to biological wastewater treatment. The course is divided into three sections: I- covers basic principles, design, and operation of aerobic and anaerobic treatment processes including pretreatments, nitrification, denitrification, hydrolysis, fermentation, acidogenesis, methanogenesis, biogas production, mass balance, process kinetics, and reactor/digestor configurations. II- covers sludge production, treatment, and disposal. III- deals with xenobiotics in biological wastewater treatment plants and landfill leachate treatment.

There are three exercise sessions where we apply the theories and principles from the lectures to simulated cases. The exercises account for 10% of the course final grade. Please check Other Events to see the date and time for the exercises.

The Half-Exams are optional, but will give you an additional chance to complete the course successfully.

Half-Exam 1 covers the first half of the material course and is held on week 47, on 19-21.11.2018. you can take the exam only once on your chosen date (either on 19 or 20 or 21.11).

Half-Exam 2 covers the second half of the material course and is held on week 51, on 19-21.12.2018. you can take the exam only once on your chosen date (either on 19 or 20 or 21.10).

Please note that Half-Exam 2 is given at the same time as the first full exam. You can take either or both, your choice.
