Osaamistavoitteet
After completing the course the student will understand the basic functioning of the human visual system including anatomy, optics, physiology, pathologies (eye diseases), and examination methods. The course also contains a brief introduction into the optical principles of camera systems and introduces the fundamental limitations of imaging systems. The student should be able to make simple optical analyses of display and/or camera systems from the human visual system point of view. They should also be able to apply the knowledge on the human visual system into practical problems, such as human-machine interaction design. ... plus, of course, understanding our most important way of gathering information about the surrounding world is extremely interesting!

Ohjeita opiskelijalle osaamisen tasojen saavuttamiseksi
The course has been built so that each topic area is accompanied with written material and/or on-line lectures. There will be a question or two on each topic, and these questions are answered by short essays. Each essay is a small research project, and there are no direct answers in the course material. You are required to do your own research. As the emphasis is on understanding instead of learning small details by heart, own thinking and analysis of own and fellow students' work is encouraged. The keys to success: - dedicate enough time for the course; understanding the content, doing the research and writing the essays takes time - analyse both your own and other students' answers carefully and learn from them - try to apply the new knowledge in as many ways as you can imagine
