This Spoken Communication in English course (KIE-32026) is integrated with the course Supply Chain Management (TL0-11046) and takes place during period 3 (& 4) of the first year of the bachelor's degree programme for TUTA & TIJO students.It is compulsory for those students who wish to take English as their degree programme's second language requirement. Other students particpating in TLO-11046 are also welcome.

The course is offered in a 'blending learning' format comprising contact sessions and independent/online learning with peers.

At the end of the course, the students are able to •engage in small talk •make use of language learning resources to develop vocabulary and grammatical knowledge •engage in discussions about basic concepts and principles central to students field of study •research technological topics in English by critically reading from both popular and scientific sources •summarize information from these sources in speech •collaborate in project pairs or groups in order to design short and effective persuasive presentations •design and use visual aids in support of presentations •give constructive feedback to peers •demonstrate active listening skills

Assessment will take into account the following: - Active participation and interaction with peers (in and outside of the classroom); - Successful completion of all in-class and out-of-class assignments by the deadlines, including peer review and self-review; - Language and communication skills demonstrated via a variety of communication events; and - A team presentation including preparation. In order to achieve the learning outcomes, the student will need to - read & follow instructions - study the learning materials - successfully complete course assignments by the deadlines - engage in peer review - collaborate with fellow students - manage time effectively - communicate effectively with peers and teachers - use their initiative - reflect on learning Learning and assessment of learning will take place during the course.
