Lecture material consists of journal articles chosen by the teacher. Every second year the topics have the emphasis on molecular biotechnology, alternating with industrial environmental biotechnology.

Each participant prepares oral presentations of selected scientific articles,submits written questions for the group discussions and completes a written assignment. Attendance in the classroom sessions is mandatory. |

To receive a grade "pass", the student must - Complete the given reading assignments (recently published review and research articles from scientific journals) - Complete writing assignments for each article. - Compose a written summary of 2 selected articles. - Compose a popular science text based on 1 selected article. |
Osaamistavoitteet
After the course the student is able to - identify the key points of a scientific study that is reported in a peer-reviewed scientific article - communicate scientific ideas effectively both verbally and in writing - present constructive criticism for scientific arguments - participate in a scientific debate - assess the importance and novelty of results of a peer-reviewed scientific article
