The supervisor may request that the student independently study literature related to the research field. The literature is selected in accordance with the personal study plan of the student, taking into account sufficient coverage of the research field. The recommendation is that postgraduate students attain a deep and broad exposure to the scientific literature of their field as a part of their studies. In this context, literature refers to (scientific) books and papers. The literature should focus on advanced scientific content. A single study attainment may be based on several books and/or articles, in which case the study attainment must be given a clear, descriptive heading.
Doctoral students demonstrate their understanding of scientific texts in order to earn credits by taking a written or oral exam, preparing an essay, or completing a combination of assignments and exercises. All partial completions must be separately agreed upon with the supervisor.
As a general rule, 70¿130 pages correspond to 1 study credit, depending on the level of the material. The doctoral programme maintains a record of literature approved within the degree requirements.
