Osaamistavoitteet
Student can understand and explain the terminology and the definitions used in the field of biomedical materials science. Student is able to separate differences between material groups and materials, their biocompatibility and typical reactions inside the human body. Student can name the most common materials in the field of biomedical materials science. Student can explain the structures, properties and differences of the most common materials as well as explain how and why different materials are used for different clinical applications. Student can explain main sterilization methods for different materials, and understand the demands and principles for operations in clean rooms.

Grades 1-2: Knows the basic definitions of the course and can list the main benefits and disadvantages of different material groups. Understands the difference between medical and non-medical materials, and main tissue responses on basic level. Satisfactory command in core content of the course. Grades 3-4: Can explain the definitions of the course and the benefits and disadvantages of different material groups. Can explain the difference between medical and non-medical materials, and typical tissue responses on deeper level. Good command in core content and complementary knowledge of the course. Good or very good marks from all parts of the course. Grade 5: Can combine and utilize different parts of the course together creating deeper understanding about the context by using real life medical indications as an input and reference. All the learning outcomes have been exceeded. Deep command in the whole content of the course. Almost maximum performance in all parts of the course.
