Kuvaus

In this course students design, build, and test a compete RF circuit, for example a microwave amplifier, according to given specifications. The course mimics real working life tasks in RF design jobs. Students document their design work in a brief report and present the results to peers in a seminar. The topics are flexible and are typically related to each other. One can suggest own topic also.

This year (fall 2019) the suggested topic is "Down-converter for 864 MHz". Students design and build the needed sub-circuits to this system: a low-noise amplifier, an RF mixer, a VCO, a frequency divider, etc. The system is supposed to receive and convert a 864-MHz radio signal down to 96 MHz which can be demodulated with standard FM radio parts. The final outcome is a fully functional, battery-operated receiver for wireless microphones that use 864 MHz as their carrier frequency.

A necessary prerequisite is ELT-47206 Basics of RF Engineering (or equivalent). Students are encouraged to take ELT-47266 Active RF Circuits at the same time since the same topics are studied in that course, but form rather a theoretical point of view: previous knowledge is applied and the inner workings of the circuits is explained.
