Course objectives
In the knowledge economy, a new gap has emerged between venture supply and capital supply – too few ventures make it to the radar scan of the venture capital industry – of which both ends suffer. The mission of this course is to give basic understanding of the strategy alternatives available for growth-oriented ventures to become ‘investable’ in the eyes of the VC industry. The focus of the course is on (i) the different players operating in the space between venture and the capital, (ii) the basic strategies of pushing ventures to capital, and (iii) the role of knowledge vs. capital in the venture-to-capital (V2C) investment process. Similarities and differences in the V2C strategies of advisory firms, business angels, corporate venturing groups, and incubators will be investigated from the perspectives of both the ventures (entrepreneurs) and the VC industry.
