Content of the course
In this course, we consider situations in which traditional linear filters fail and nonlinear techniques become necessary. We start with a brief review of estimation theory (maximum likelyhood and M-estimators). Then, we study various classes of nonlinear filters, such as median filters, weighted median filters, L-filters, stack filters and morphological filters.
