(Timetable for academic year 2006-2007)

Objectives
Learning principles and skills for modelling, analysis and design of multivariable and LQ optimal continuous-time and discrete-time control laws using Matlab and Control System Toolbox.

Content
Content Core content Complementary knowledge Specialist knowledge
1. Physical modelling and identification of a MIMO process ; steady-state calculus , linearization, matrix notation
2. Modelling and analysis of closed-loop control systems using both state-space models and and transfer function matrices
3. Design of decoupling control, especially multivariable PI control
4. State feedback control using pole placement, controllability, state observers, observability
5. H2 performance indices, Deterministic infinite-horizon LQ/H2 control, introduction to performance indices of stochastic control.

Requirements for completing the course
3 PC-sessions (beyond weekly voluntary PC exercise, each taking 2 hours) and a PC Exam. The exam may be divided into two sub-exams.
