Objectives
Student familiarizes himself with the basic concepts of satellite positioning, how the position is estimated, and what types of technologies are involved.

Content

1. Satellite positioning systems. Space, control and user segments. GPS and GALILEO.  Inertial navigation. Integration of INS with satellite navigation. GPS modernization.  The development and history of satellite positioning systems. 
2. Coordinate systems. Time reference.       
3. Positioning measurements and error sources of them.  Modelling of the errors and error detection methods.    
4. Position estimation. Pseudorange. Geometry matrix.  Estimation of position, velocity, and time using the measurement data.    
5. Range signals, code and carrier parts. Satellite navigation receivers.  Carrier to noise ratio and positioning accuracy.    

Requirements for completing the course
A short writing assignment and a written exam.
