Objectives
The course introduces the process of master's thesis writing with the aims that the student understands how the process works, what is the scope of a thesis and what kinds of topics can be possible for a Master's thesis.

1. Learning the process of preparing a Master's Thesis. Understanding the Scope of the thesis.  Good practises of the writing process and the arrangements relating to the Master's Thesis.  Familiarisation of a number of other Master's Theses in the same major subject area as the student. The theses often discuss the state-of-the-art technology of their field. 

Requirements for completing the course
Attending the seminar six times or passing an oral exam of a handbook of technical writing.

Evaluation criteria for the course

  • Attendance in the seminars is recorded and a sufficient amount of times attended is required to pass the course. An alternative to this is the oral exam of the course book of which the first 100 pages and pages 121-126 are relevant. The oral exam controls that the student has read the book and understands the steps and some details about preparing a major technical document.

  • The principle in the seminars is to learn the process from other students, however under the guidance of the teacher.

  • Additional information related to course
    The seminar is attended also by the international students of the Institute of Digital and Computer Systems and the Institute of Telecommunications.
    The student should begin to attend the seminars early enough in his/her studies so that there is sufficient time to listen to the seminars given in English before the student wants to graduate.
