Objectives
To familiarize the student with natural and geosynthetic materials used in ground water protection structures and landfill structures, and the principles of their design.

Content

1. Typical ground and water pollutants, their sources, propagation and effects.        
2. Effect of permeability on pollutant transportation in the ground and its modelling.        
3. Ground water protection structures.        
4. Design, structures and construction of landfills.        

Requirements for completing the course
Accepted design exercises, laboratory exercise and a written exam.

Evaluation criteria for the course

  • Exam 75 % and design assessments 25 %.
