1. Different formulations of structural optimization problems. Linear programming in plasticity. Unconstrained nonlinear programming problem. Basic algorithms for the numerical solution of the optimization problem. Kuhn-Tucker conditions and general sensitivity analysis. Approximations. Discrete and global optimization. Sensitivity computations based on FEM. Shape optimization. Dual theory. Optimality criteria methods. Decomposition of large problems. Multicriterion optimization. Computer packages for FEM-based structural optimization.       

Requirements for completing the course
Exercises, team work and a written examination.
