Objectives
The objective of this course is to learn essential concepts on the subject active RF circuits. The student will gain a theoretical basis of understanding on which he can build up more understanding through practical design experimentation and lab projects.

Content
Content Core content Complementary knowledge Specialist knowledge
1. RF transistor amplifier design, gain concepts, impedance matching, stability, noise figure, linearity, design for constant gain, broadband, high power, and multistage design.
2. Oscillator design, the concepts and relationships of negative resistance and positive feedback, basic oscillator configurations, quartz oscillator , voltage controlled oscillator, microwave oscillator structures.
3. RF mixer design, basic concepts of mixing, single ended, balanced, and double balanced mixers.
4. Detectors, modulators, and demodulators for amplitude, frequency, and phase modulation.

Requirements for completing the course
Students need to collect at least 50 % of the maximum amount of points. Various tasks throughout the course yield these points.
