Objectives
Basics of digital imaging and post-processing. Imaging as a tool for planning processes and presentation, image as an artistic presentation, theoretical principles of imaging processes. Lectures and demonstrations in english.

1. The basics of digital cameras and image processing workflows.  Image processing tool add-ons.  Digital file recovery.
Restoration of image material. 
2. Workflows in picture taking, in darkrooms and in digital image processing.  Optical aberration corrections. Panorama- and fish-eye photography.
Remote camera control. 
Traditional silver-based photography. 
3. Imaging equipment, lenses, filters, lights, accessories, image storage materials, programs,  Light sources, studio lights.  Special photography:
close-up photography, digiscoping, endoscopy. 
4. Image post processing, printing and archives. Scanning.
Image metadata (exif, IPTC). 
Archival life of image materials.
Archival space recommendations. 
  
5. Image presentation equipment and basics of public image presentation.  Design of image presentation spaces.    

Requirements for completing the course
Personal portfolio created with personal tutoring and containing all asked process parts: 2 photographic tasks, processed materials, technical and artistic image processing.

Evaluation criteria for the course

  • Step-by-step personal projects consisting of technical and artistic imaging tasks (personal tutoring after each step). Finished project folder containing all project parts: credits based on artistic and tehnical aspects.

    Additional information about prerequisites
    Basic skills of Photoshop or an other image processing program are needed, but not teached. Basic skills for creating a presentation (flash, html, pdf, or ppt) are needed (teached on AML-1100).
