Objectives
The goal of the laboratory course is to take a practical view on communication networking.

1. The goal of the VPN assignment is to provide basic operation of the IPSEC: the exchange of keys and encryption of the transmission.
 
How to construct different VPN-connections    
2. A package of NAT, DHCP and DNS related assignments shows how these protocols and systems are utilised in the construction of a basic networking environment.       
3. The WLAN assignment gives the student an introduction to Wireless LAN standard (IEEE 802.11b), and its configuration. In addition, Ethereal protocol analyzer and Network Stumbler -software are utilised in this assignment.  The familiar the usage of Windows, Unix, and Ethereal are, the faster the laboratory sessions.    
4. The goal of the BGP-task is to provide a deeper idea how BGP works in practice. The material contains the usage of BGP for controlling the incoming traffic in multi-operator enviroment, Communitys, and MED. During the task, a network composed of five routers and four operators, is being configured and different traffic-controlling tests are being applied.  The contracts and operational manners between operators in practical Internet.    
5. The simulation assignments deal with the ns-2 simulator and SDT tool.       

Requirements for completing the course
In each task, a student has to make an acceptable pre-report, a measurement part in the laboratory and a final report.

  • The assessments of laboratory courses are based on consistency of working in the laboratory and the quality of reports

  • Used assessment scale is passed / failed
