Objectives
By the end of the course, students will be able to understand slow, clearly spoken, simple spoken Finnish as well as short texts. Students will also be able to cope with everyday situations involving the exchange of information. Students will be able to write short texts, and they will gain a command of basic grammatical structures, with a vocabulary adequate for dealing with familiar topics.

Content

1. Vocabulary: weather, travelling, food and menu, eating in a restaurant. New vocabulary also for home, living and clothing.
 
     
2. Grammar: use and meaning of the local cases and the partitive singular. New nesessive verbs, infinitive forms and the simple past tense (imperfect). Postpositions.       
3. Listening/speaking: Students will understand clear, slowly spoken Finnish on topics covered in the course. They will be able to cope with everyday situations.       
4. Reading: texts on topics covered in the course.       
5. Writing: short texts on topics covered in the course. Students will be able to combine their old and new knowledge of the Finnish language.       

Requirements for completing the course
Active participation in lectures (75% attendance), assignments and successful performance in the final examination.
