Objectives
The ability to understand and produce quite advanced oral and written English in professional and social situations. CEF skill level = C1.

Content

1. Word study related to salaries, payments and accounts; conditions of employment; a business transaction.  Cultural background.  Oral comments of teacher and students regarding relevant personal experience. 
2. Language of contract documents and letter of application for prequalification as tenderer.  Comparing backgrounds.  Selecting an agent in Arab countries. 
3. Typical workplace correspondence (deliveries, conditions of payment, confirmation of orders).  Surface politeness in letter writing and social situations in different countries.

 
  
4. Analysis and writing of an effective CV; job interview analysis.  Cultural background.  Double meaning and sarcasm in communication in the Irish and British cultures. 
5. Structure of a short speech; chairing a meeting; presenting your work unit.  Cultural background.  Related anecdotes and stories. 

Requirements for completing the course
Regular attendance in class (75%) and success in examination at end of course.
