Objectives
Overall improvement of the student's oral and written skills, knowledge of technical terms - especially from the fields of civil engineering - by means of using pair and group assignments, exercises, oral presentations and essay writing.

Content

1. Grammar revision ( use of articles, prepositions, adjectives, adverbs, verb tenses, etc. ...)  How to use the most common collocations, idiomatic phrases and more prepositional phraseology.  Learning stylistic things like the indirect speech, rhetorical questions, inverted word order etc. 
2. To prepare students for giving speeches and oral presentations.  How to become a good speaker, tips and tricks for public performances.  Cultural considerations in e.g.international conferences. 
3. Basic vocabulary concerning working life, meeting procedures, job applications and CV's.  To be able to communicate well in professional contexts. To master the technological jargon, lexicon and idiomatic expressions needed for professional language use.  How to sell oneself to the highest bidder in work life! Efficient communication and knowledge of style. 
4. The main principles of word formation.   Academic prefixes and suffixes, how to create and understand technical and academic compound words.  A deeper understanding of word formation. 

Requirements for completing the course
Presence in lessions required (75% minimum), an oral presentation and a written final exam
