Active participation and completion of the course assignments.

The aim of the course is to study and practise the conventions, organization and stylistic features of academic technical writing in English through lectures, practical assignments and analysis of text samples.

1. | The main organizational aspects of written academic discourse: the basic structure of a research paper (introduction, main body, conclusion); developing and presenting a thesis statement; paragraph organization; coherence; summaries & abstracts. | ||
2. | The major stylistic and structural aspects of academic language: sentence structures, parallelism, logical connectives, word choice, register, punctuation, use of modifiers. | ||
3. | The documentation and use of secondary sources: direct quotations, paraphrasing, referencing, bibliographies, abbreviations, plagiarism. |
Active participation, completing course assignments and a final exam.
