Objectives

The student learns how to to design and implement simple digital circuits using hardware description languages, and gets familiar with the related simulation and synthesis software tools. The student acquires knowledge about hardware implementation techniques related with HDL usage

Content

Content Core content Complementary knowledge Specialist knowledge
1. Classification of digital systems  Hardware/software partitioning, reconfigurable systems
2. Hardware implementation technique   Full custom, ASIC and FPGA
3. RTL design flow
4. Syntax and properties of VHDL hardware description languages.  Reusability when using hardware description languages.  Module generators and parametrized hardware descriptions.
5. Properties of SystemC

Evaluation criteria for the course

The grade of the course is based on the exam and the exercise work.
