Objectives

The course focuses on mobile and wireless communications. The course introduces the structures and principles of different types of wireless networks (cellular networks, WPAN/WLAN/WMAN/WWAN, broadcasting networks), as well as radio network planning methods. Also the central properties of a radio link are studied. MAC (medium access control) mechanisms and RRM (radio resource management) functionalities are described and their significance on the efficient operation of the network is discussed. Also positioning methods based on wireless systems (UMTS, satellites) are presented.
