Objectives

The main goal of the course is to learn practical work in photochemistry laboratory and to become familiar with modern optical spectroscopy instruments.

Content

Content Core content Complementary knowledge Specialist knowledge
1. The course consists of five laboratory exercises in photochemistry. The exercises include measurements of emission and absorption spectra and decays, estimations of the photochemical reaction rates and efficiencies and evaluation of fluorescence spectroscopy sensor applications.

Evaluation criteria for the course

The final mark for each work will be given according to the following evaluation criteria and weight factors: Reported results (50%) Quality of report (25%) quality of records in laboratory notebook (25%)

Assessment scale:

Numerical evaluation scale (1-5) will be used on the course

  Description Methods of instruction Implementation
Implementation 1 Photochemisry laboratory course is a practical introduction to optical spectroscopy methods in application to chemistry and photochemistry. The exercises are carried out in research laboratory using advanced research grade instruments. The practical part ranges from steady state measurements of very low molecular concentrations to time-resolved measurements of a very fast (subnanosecond) intermolecular reaction.   Lectures
