Active participation in lectures (75% attendance), assignments and successful performance in the final examination.

During the course students will learn the basics of Finnish. They will be able to introduce themselves using short and simple-structured Finnish expressions. Students will also be able to understand and use vocabulary for hobbies, family, foods and drinks.

1. | Vocabulary: greetings, introducing oneself, numbers, months, the days of the week, time, family, buying and paying, food and menu. | ||
2. | Grammar: the verb types, the genitive, the partitive and the local cases in singular and consonant gradation. Making questions and forming negative sentences. | ||
3. | Listening/speaking: recognizing the sounds and understanding simple phrases. Students will learn to talk about themselves using simple expressions. | ||
4. | Reading: short, simple texts on topics covered in the course. | ||
5. | Writing: During the course students will write short essays on topics covered in the course. |
