Objectives

This is a special course under the theme "Modern Techniques for Producing Media Content". The course is designed to teach students methods related to media content creation. Nowadays it is important to understand how to apply techniques related to image-, video-, and computer graphics processing in industrial life. The course is aimed at students with interest in audio-visual media creation. It explains the underlying techniques and methods to be able to understand media production processes. The course also gives fundamental knowledge of media production tools and being technical person involved in new media related projects. The application areas range from graphics art technology, 3D content productions for TV & film, large scale content management systems for new media, computer game development, network design techniques for high-demanding media systems, systems for new media solutions, software design methods, media technology, etc. After the course students shall understand: 1) techniques and methods for audio-visual media technology; 2) technology supporting the creation of media works; and 3) theoretical image-/video-processing models and their practical application. The course extends towards a practical group works for creating content with latest technology to give an understanding of theoretical principles. Results and test-materials have been published on the NAMU research group web-site (http://namu.cs.tut.fi/).
