Learning outcomes

The course objective is to gain basic theoretical understanding of camera as a measurement device. Course contains basics of 3-D measurement (photogrammetry), geometrical calibration of optics, color measurements, noise and OTF analysis. Each topic is covered in theory and related exercises.

Content

1. Basics of photogrammetry; Camera projection, relative orientation of camera pair and absolute orientation of a camera.  Image registration/matching, photogrammetry and analysis of measurement errors.  Optimization techniques, photometric stereo, advanced photogrammetry, analysis of measurement errors. 
2. Optics; Geometrical optics and geometrical camera calibration  Optimization parameter initialization for cameras.  Optimization techniques. 
3. Camera based color measurements; Camera sensor properties, properties of light and object. Optical filtering.  Sensor physics. Radiometry and CIE-color model.  Attenuation of optical radiation in water or atmosphere. Solar irradiance. 
4. Imaging system analysis; Noise analysis of camera sensors.  Sensor physics and electronics. Measurement error analysis.  Sensor physics and electronics. Measurement error analysis. 
5. Imaging system analysis; Movement induced OTF in camera systems.  Fast LED or LASER imaging of moving objects.

Passed exercises, passed exercise work and passed seminar about the exercise work.
