Introduce the Wireless Sensor Networks (WSN) as a new technology area in research and industry. Define and explain the essential challenges of resource constrained Wireless Sensor Network design and implementation. Give both theoretical and practical tools for WSN design and utilization. Concentrate on selected topics of energy-efficient protocol and platform functionalities. Evaluate the potential application scenarios and building blocks for WSNs.
Content | Core content | Complementary knowledge | Specialist knowledge |
1. | Essential challenges of resource constrained Wireless Sensor Network (WSN) design and implementation. | Building blocks for WSNs (low-power transceivers, sensors, micro controllers, operating systems)
2. | Standardization and industry specifications on WSNs. | Specific standards and university proposals.
3. | Energy-efficient WSN protocols and embedded implementations (low-power medium access control, cost-aware routing, cross-layer design) | Standard MAC and routing protocols (IEEE 802.15.4, ZigBee, TinyOS)
4. | Current state of research, prototypes, platforms, and deployments and platform functionalities | Current and potential application scenarios in WSNs.
5. | Energy models for WSN communications, theoretical and practical tools for WSN design and utilization. |
