Introduction to basics of photonics, stressing semiconductor lasers: edge-emitting lasers (including Distributed Feedback and distributed Bragg reflector lasers), vertical micro-cavity optical sources (including Resonant-Cavity Light Emitting Diodes, Vertical Cavity Surface-Emitting Lasers), optical amplifiers, detectors (including resonant-cavity photodetectors), semiconductor solar cells (including multi-junction solar cells), semiconductor optics.
