Nanochemistry is a branch of the actively developing interdisciplinary field of nanoscience. It deals with synthesis and characterization of materials in the nanometer size range. These materials include inorganic cluster compounds, metallic and semiconductor nanoparticles and nanowires, self-assembled clusters of organic molecules, large organic molecules and many other objects organized at nanometer scale. The growing interest to such objects is governed by new and often unusual mechanical, chemical, electrical and optical properties, which opens large variety of applications in nanoelectronics, photonics, catalysis, chemical- and bio-sensors and many others.
