Active participation in lectures (75% attendance), assignments and successful performance in the final examination.

During the course students will learn the basics of Finnish. They will be able to introduce themselves using short and simple-structured Finnish expressions. Students will also be able to understand and use vocabulary for hobbies, family, foods and drinks.

1. | Vocabulary: greetings and introducing oneself, numbers, the days of the week, months and telling time, family, buying and paying, foods and drinks. | ||
2. | Listening/speaking: recognizing the sounds and understanding simple phrases. Students will learn to talk about themselves using simple expressions. | ||

5. | Grammar: verb types, consonant gradation, the genitive case, the partitive case and the local cases in singular. Making questions and forming negative sentences. |
