Learning outcomes
The course deepens the knowledge in optics so that the student is able to 1) analyze optical systems using paraxial ray tracing, principal planes and effective focal length and taking into account the effect of primary and chromatic aberrations on the system performance; 2) take into account the polarization effects in the optical response of materials and analyze polarization-dependent optical effects; 3) analyze light propagation in optical systems using concepts of physical optics, Fourier optics, and systems theory; 4) analyze simple cases of holography and their image formation; 5) take into account the coherence properties of light in optical effects and devices.

Evaluation criteria for the course
Homework (40%) and final examination (60%). Full homework points alone will give a passing grade (1). About half of the homework points and excellent performance in the exam will give the highest grade (5)
Assessment scale:
Numerical evaluation scale (1-5) will be used on the course
