Learning outcomes
After passing the course the student will have developed and improved various skills depending on their pilot project assignment. Group working skills are especially implemented as the course comprises of an assignment carried out by a group of students. The assignments are small co-operation projects between TUT and the industry, a company or research institute, and cover a broad spectrum of biotechnology. The project can be either a literature survey, practical laboratory work or an interview, or a combination of these. The student will attain skills in independent planning, managing, organizing and executing of a project. By writing a scientific report the student will learn to summarize, rationalize and explain the findings and ideas developed during the project. Oral presentation skills will also be learned as the students present and explain their findings in a seminar.

Evaluation criteria for the course
The grade (0-5) will be determined by the extent of self-initiative, diligence and activeness of the student. Also, meeting the schedule set for the project is of high importance. The quality and thoroughness of the report and oral presentation also affect the grade. A good understanding the core content will suffice to a grade 3. In order to earn a grade 4 or 5 the student will have to have a good or excellent understanding of complementary knowledge.

Additional information
Two annual meetings will be organized to monitor the proceeding of projects and initiate new students to the course. Presence in these meetings is mandatory. Students will be informed of the meeting dates.
