Learning outcomes

Students can design IP networks of moderate size and utilize in practice various techniques of IP (Internet Protocol) based networking: dynamic routing protocols, IPv6, mobile IP and multicasting.

Content

1. The role of IP in the TCP/IP protocol stack; IPv6 details. NATs and NAPTs.     
2. Shortest path routing; related algorithms. Routing protocols: distance vector based (RIP) and link state based (OSPF).     
3. Inter-domain routing; peering and transit relationships; BGP protocol.     
4. Mobile IP and multicasting.
