Learning outcomes

After completing the course students are able to describe and apply common signal processing, signal analysis, and signal interpretation methods in today's health care and wellness applications. They can also practice the processing and analysis of common physiological signals with Matlab.

Content

Content Core content Complementary knowledge Specialist knowledge
1. Physiological signals, their properties, data acquisition and sampling.
2. EEG signal analysis. Spectral analysis of biosignals. Artifact rejection, adaptive filtering. Time-frequency analysis, wavelet transform, time-frequency distributions
3. ECG signal analysis. Arrhythmia detection. Feature extraction and classification.
4. Heart rate variability. Nonlinear dynamics. State space, phase space and related signal measures. Measures of signal entropy.
5. Computer exercises with Matlab and demonstrations.

Evaluation criteria for the course
