Learning outcomes
After the course, the student is expected to be able to design, manufacture, and test a simple passive microwave component.
Content
Content | Core content | Complementary knowledge | Specialist knowledge |
1. | Microwave circuit theory. Impedance and admittance matrices, chain parameters (ABCD), scattering parameters, and wave-cascade matrix (WCM).
2. | Passive microwave components: power dividers, hybrids, and directional couplers. Understanding of basic operation.
3. | Filters (microstrip). Understanding of basic operation. Filter theory is NOT covered in detail.
4. | Project. Wilkinson power divider, direction coupler, branch-line hybrid, ring hybrid, OR stub filter. Design, implementation, measurement, and reporting. | Modern simulation software: CST Microwave Studio, AWR Microwave Office. |
Evaluation criteria for the course
The grade is determined by the exam. Successful completion of the project work is required to pass the course. Excellent project work may improve the grade by one.
Assessment scale:
Numerical evaluation scale (1-5) will be used on the course
Partial passing:
