Learning outcomes
The course gives the basic knowledge of the most conventional converter topologies and their behavior in such a way that a student after the course recognizes the basic converters, knows the basic terminology, can analyze their behavior both in continuos and discontinuos operation modes as well as can solve the voltage and current stresses of the power-stage components.
Content
Content | Core content | Complementary knowledge | Specialist knowledge |
1. | The structure and behavior of the basic topologies in CCM and DCM operation modes: Buck, boost, buck-boost. | Diffrent main control principles: Direct-duty-ratio, peak-current-mode, average-current-mode, self-oscillation | Method to take into account the effect of the capacitor ESRs. |
2. | The structure and behavior of the basic transformer-isoalted topologies in CCM and DCM operation modes: Forward, Flyback, Half-bridge, Full-bridge | Active-reset forward converter | |
3. | The meaning of power factor and its correcting | Basic topologies and control methods used in the pf correction |
Evaluation criteria for the course
Passing of the final examination covering the topics presented during the lectures and exercises.
