Learning outcomes
This course attempts to provide a unified overview of the field of industrial communications. Students will learn the basics of data communications, networks, protocols and the application to distributed automation systems. A large part of the course will be dedicated to the industrial adoption of IP and wireless Networks. After the course students should be able given a problem to create an industrial network to classify and identify possible constrains to justify the solution. Students should be able to compare different industrial (e.g. fieldbus) protocols.
