Learning outcomes

After completing the course students can explain the special features related to the electronics in medical applications, especially biopotential measurement. Students recognize the factors that affect the design of biopotential measurement devices, such as electrode-tissue interface, electrical noise, amplifiers, and patient safety. They can design, construct, and evaluate a biopotential amplifier.

1. Comprehend the functionality of the instrumentation amplifier (IA) circuit and analyze the suitability of a certain IA to a bioelectric application.     
2. Recognize the basics of EMI/EMC in medical devices in terms of noise sources, coupling, and rejection.     
3. Comprehend the theory and practical issues of biopotential electrodes.     
4. List the functional and safety requirements for medical devices used in bioelectrical applications.     
5. Apply learned knowledge in design, construction and evaluation of a biopotential amplifier.     
6. Examples of electronics design of other biomedical devices.     

Evaluation criteria for the course

The final mark is based on the week assignments grade (33 %) and exercise work grade (67 %).

Numerical evaluation scale (1-5) will be used on the course

Completion parts must belong to the same implementation
