Learning outcomes

Major core course part-1 for B.Sc. and M.Sc. level with selective attention on the most important communication circuits and modules in Wireless Communications. It is built to form the essential knowledge of the Integrated RF Circuits Designer. Lectures deliver the basic principles and illustrate them with examples. Auditorium exercises apply the theory on main practical importance cases, using hand-held analysis and further training on the CAD software tools. CAD tools training start with PSpice which is used 80% of the time to investigate PCB-circuits and then introducing Cadence to prepare student for IC design. In the laboratory exercises students will investigate by experiments on-PCB pre-build modern structure Low-Noise Amplifier, Power Amplifier Class-E and LC VCO using the RF measurement laboratory devices. Upon completing the course the student is able to: - Relate circuit specifications to real communication circuits. - Associate different noise types and sources to circuit components. - Recognize basic communication circuit blocks in schematic level and use simulation tools to measure basic circuit properties. - Use ESA-L1500B spectrum analyzer and HP54602A oscilloscope to verify simulated data.
