Requirements
A completed assignment. The assignment can be a practical work on microfluidics, modeling and simulation work or literature survey.
Completion parts must belong to the same implementation
Principles and baselines related to teaching and learning
- the course is based on tutoring, which takes place partly in face-to-face discussions and partly in Moodle
Learning outcomes
This course is extension of Microfluidics course (ACI-51406). It is intended for students, who want to work independently on a problem. The problem can have different nature: such as a simulation, practical work in the laboratory or literature research of a topic. After the course, the student can analyse, design or implement microfludic structures.
Content
Content | Core content | Complementary knowledge | Specialist knowledge |
1. | research skills> depending on the problem - defining a problem, - writing, - presenting, - searching and evaluating information
2. | for simulation problems> - fluid mechanics theory - deeper understanding of modeling and simulation strategies related with microfluidics as well as modelling tools (e.g. Comsol Multiphysics and MATLAB) | - background information for given application - varies (e.g. biotechnology, material science, process automation)
3. | practical work> - fabrication and testing of microfluidic devices in practice - deeper understanding of practical issues related to microfluidics | - background information for given application - varies (e.g. biotechnology, material science, process automation)
4. | literature search> - further development of research skills - deeper understanding of researched microfluidic subject | - background information for given application - varies (e.g. biotechnology, material science, process automation) |
Evaluation criteria for the course
- amount of credits depends on the size of the problem as well as its solution in a timely manner
